Imo State Director of Nursing Services (DNS) Mrs Ucheamaka Oranusi has condemned in strongest terms the recent killing of a 21 year old student of School of Nursing Umulogho Obowo in Imo state, Chinwendu Achumba allegedly by a vulcanizer with the name Onyeoma Okonkwo and his accomplice.
The Nursing Services Director noted that Miss Chinwendu Achumba’s murder is one death too many, considering her innocence, integrity and commitment to studies to the point that she refused her assailants’ distractions who had persistently made advances on her.
Mrs Ucheamaka Oranusi who could not control her emotions while speaking with NIGERIAN NEWSGUIDE on sunday called for a discreet investigation into the killing of the Nursing Student, adding that the murderers of the innocent student must be punished without a drop of mercy.
The DNS used the same medium to call on the proprietors of the Colleges of Nursing in the state to look into the vulnerable conditions of some of their campuses with regards to security especially at a time like this that every part of Nigeria has become incredibly unsafe.
According to her, some of these schools lack fortified parameter fences and adequate school hostels which had forced some of the students to rent accommodations outside the school environment.
She called for a good security arrangement that would ensure presence of security operatives around these Schools of Nursing so as to guarantee the protection of the lives of students and lecturers.
Barr Ucheamaka Oranusi specifically called on the Proprietors of the Colleges of Nursing in the state to seek collaboration with the state government to ensure adequate security for their innocent students who have suddenly become targets of beasts of no nations masquerading as human beings at a time like this.
The Director of Nursing Services prayed God to console the parents and family of the deceased, and as well grant her beautiful soul eternal rest.
Mrs Oranusi equally commended Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma for his efforts in tackling security issues in the state. She remarked that Uzodimma’s huge investment in security is really paying off especially in the Imo Police Command.
According to her, Governor Hope Uzodimma’s regular equipment, financial and technical support have really helped the Police Command in the state to always be swift and pro-active in the arrest of criminal gangs as they were able to track and arrest the suspected killer of Chinwendu Achumba nursing in Obowo.
Oranusi in the same vein commended Obowo youths for joining in the efforts that culminated in the eventual arrest of the suspected killer of the Nursing Student.
She called on students of all the Nursing Colleges in the state to officially report those making advances on them early enough to enable their school management to step in and do the needful to forestall a situation such as the latest murder of Chinwendu.

killers of Chinwendu Achumba have been apprehended . According to reports, Miss Achumba’s lifeless body was found with her throat slit around her lodge at the School of Nursing Umulogho, Obowo, Imo state.
Her suspected prime murderer, Onyeoma Okonkwo, a vulcanizer, and his friend had reportedly confessed that they raped and killed her because she refused Okonkwo’s advances. Chiwendu was murdered in cold blood in the early hours of Thursday, May 21, 2026, when her assailants made their way to her hostel and took turns with her.
According to reports, unfortunately for them, while struggling to escape, she recognized one of the rapists and to avoid exposure, they executed her before fleeing.
