Distinguished university scholar, researcher, business mogul and Action People’s Party (APP) candidate for Imo East Senatorial district (Owerri zone) in 2027 general election, Dr Chima Matthew Amadi also known as Mazi Gburugburu says his decision to aspire to represent Owerri zone in the Nigerian Senate in 2027 is predicated on his resolve to restore education in his zone in particular and Nigeria at large, making it more attractive and sustainable.

Dr Amadi noted that current governments at all level have been playing politics with education and the future of our youths hence the dearth of functional school buildings, conducive environment for teaching and learning, lack of trained and experienced teachers alongside absence of basic teaching and instructional materials in our public schools thus rendering them ineffectual and unattractive to pupils, students and even parents.

The APP senate hopeful revealed that the consequential effect of the long abandonement of our public schools particularly in Imo state is the unfortunate rise of “Yahoo Yahoo” and 419 boys whose parents support today by buying them android phones with which they defraud innocent individuals both locally and internationally.

Dr Chima Matthew Amadi who holds double Doctorate degrees in Nutriceuticals and Politics/International Studies spoke at a parley with Media Executives in Owerri weekend.

According to him, school children are dropping out from schools because governments have made them loose interest in education.

“In our days, education was attractive to a very large extent, brilliant children were encouraged by the government and their parents to further their education. Those who were not brilliant were encouraged to go for apprenticeship. Today, education is in a mess, our younger ones have also lost interest in apprenticeship. What their parents do now, is to buy them android phones to start 419, “yahoo” business.
One of the reasons I am aspiring to go to the National Assembly is to leverage the legislative instruments to make education attractive again.
I intend to build some pilot smart schools in Imo East Senatorial district, the type that Gov Mbah is building in Enugu State. Off course, you know I am going to ensure that the school projects are captured in the federal budget. But I am definitely going to start them immediately I am inaugurated as Senator by June next year with my resources without waiting for federal government funding”.

Dr Chima Matthew Amadi explained that the smart primary school project is going to be world class with the sole intent of using them to make education attractive again in Imo state and woo school dropouts back to school.

“If not the Catholic church that is covering the shame in the educational sector here in Imo, building and managing over 40% of our school system with the Anglican church, people wouldn’t be going to school again because the government has actually failed us in that sector.
I am going to the Senate to have the legislative experience I also need to function well as a governor because I will equally work with the state House of Assembly if I become a governor in the future.
The three basic duties of a lawmaker is lawmaking, oversight and constituency development. I am going to marry the three together for the good of my constituency.
We are going to be loud in the Senate, you will definitely hear my voice, I am not going to behave like others who only chase after contracts, abandoning their primary responsibilities as Senators.

On the political fortunes of his party, Action People’s Party (APP), the university of Ibadan, university College London and university of Warwick distinguished alumnus remarked that APP remains a mass movement that is not driven by “big men and women” but anchored around the masses particularly non formal sector people who are fed up with the status quo that had kept Imo state on the part of retrogression over the years.

“We are very serious with this election and as the APP candidate for Imo East, we are going to win the election in order to give Owerri zone the best in 2027 and beyond”.
