As plans are being concluded for a fresh election for All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Imo State Chapter, a frontline aspirant to the chairmanship position, Amb. Mrs Ijeoma Nwachukwu has reiterated her resolve to make the association better and envious when elected.
She remarked that AFAN under her watch shall witness all round development to become better and greater than what it is at the moment.
Nwachukwu spoke at strategic meeting with the 27 LGA Cordinators of the association at AFAN’s state secretariat along Okigwe road Owerri on Thursday 7th May, 2026.
The chairmanship hopeful revealed that in 2017, she singlehandedly mobilized and took Imo AFAN contingents to a national competition in Nasarawa state and clinched the 1st position, adding that she did same magic again in the subsequent competition with support from government and other people and Imo State got the 2nd position.
In her words, “I will make AFAN great, I have done it before when I wasn’t a chairman, I will do it again and even better. I want to be the chairman because I am the best at the moment. Our target is to make Imo State a food producing and processing hub in Nigeria. We want to also put smiles on the faces of all AFAN members.
Speaking earlier, convener of the meeting and Cordinator of all the LGA Cordinators in Imo state Mr Lord’s Mbamara said AFAN was in dire need of transformational leadership.
Mbamara a Deputy Chair aspirant urged LGA Cordinators to support the emergence of credible leaders in the forthcoming AFAN election.
Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of NIGERIAN NEWSGUIDE and Secretary hopeful, Sir Chidi Emeagi thanked the outgoing state Chairman of AFAN Dr Ayo Enwerem for doing his best to keep AFAN afloat despite obvious insider sabotage.
Emeagi noted that AFAN would be repositioned in less than two years if a new crop of leaders with fresh energy and implementable visions are elected in the coming election.
He lastly called on Imo AFAN electoral committee to stop delaying the poll but to conduct the election soonest since aspirants have all bought their forms, filled them out and submitted same in readiness for the election.
Other members who spoke were Mr Okechukwu Willimbo, Provost aspirant, Pastor Sammy Eluchie, Mrs Helen Onuoha, Sir Chijioke Uchegbu, a chairmanship aspirant, LGA Cordinators and Chief Emma Odoemena. They all spoke in favour of a better AFAN in Imo state.
Pastor Sammy Eluchie was particularly concerned about the underutilization of Dr Ayo Enwerem’s potentials whilst his tenure lasted. In his words, “We are determined to elect officials who will work together as a team to get the best for us. Dr Ayo Enwerem did well, only that he never got the cooperation he needed from his other exco members. Dr Ayo Enwerem was underutilized, his CV is with World bank. He is full of capacity and highly educated. The least position Dr Ayo Enwerem can get from government is Commissioner for Agriculture”.
The meeting attracted Cordinators from most of the LGAs in State, and ended with far-reaching and forward looking deliberations and decisions.
