As workers all over the globe celebrate this year’s May Day, National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu has extended his heartfelt greetings and warmest felicitations to workers in the 36 states of the federation including the federal capital territory, Abuja.

Particularly, Senator Anyanwu celebrates the resilience, dedication, and invaluable contributions to the growth and development of the society by workers in Imo state, describing them as the “engine room” of any viable, sustainable and stable society.

A statement from Senator Anyanwu’s Media Adviser, Dr Ikenna Onuoha reads thus:

“This year’s celebration is deeply sobering. It is impossible to ignore the harsh realities many workers and pensioners in Imo State are currently facing. The persistent neglect, unpaid salaries, and the painful plight of our pensioners; many of whom have tragically passed on without receiving their rightful entitlements.

This insensitive act of government is unacceptable, unjust and will not be tolerated henceforth. No society that truly values its people should allow those who labored tirelessly in their prime to suffer at their old age.

Sam Daddy

I want the workers and pensioners in Imo State to know this: I hear your cries, I feel your pains and I stand firmly with you in this difficult time. Remember that every

May 1st, is reserved to honour the dedication and contributions of workers to national development. The day, often called May Day, recognizes labor rights and includes events like marches to promote better welfare, safety, and productivity.

The dignity of labour must be upheld and should not be trampled upon by anyone no matter how highly placed. Governance must prioritize the welfare of the people, not subject them to hardship and despair.

The current situation calls for urgent correction and compassionate leadership
As Imo people look upon the 2027, I assure Ndi-Imo that consolation and better reward are close bye. With the return of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to governance in Imo State, we will restore sanity, fairness, and accountability. Workers will be respected, pensions will be paid, and Imo state will once again be a safe and prosperous place for all.

Let this Workers’ Day renew our collective resolve to demand better packages, to stand for justice, and to work towards a future where every Imo worker is valued and rewarded”.
